About Our Practice in Myrtle Creek

Meet Dr. Lynn E. Goodwin! Owner and physician here at Advanced Eyecare. As a second-generation optometrist, his professionalism and experience run deep, and he loves what he does. The Goodwin practice of optometry began here in Myrtle Creek, Oregon, in 1952 by his father, Dr. Henry Goodwin, who practiced optometry for more than 40 years.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Lynn Goodwin’s chosen path led toward a career in optometry. After graduating from South Umpqua High School, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in General Science from Oregon State University. 4 years later, in 1980, he received his Doctor of Optometry Degree from Pacific University. Coursework completed and degree in hand, Dr. Lynn Goodwin happily moved home to Myrtle Creek to join his father in practice.

Dr. Goodwin has committed his professional life to providing excellent vision services in the Douglas County community. He serves people of all ages and gives them the personal attention and high-quality eye care they need. Investments in advanced technologies and well-trained staff have maintained a standard that goes beyond what might be expected in a small town. Dr. Goodwin has inspired a loyal patient base and always welcomes new patients into the practice.

When he is not seeing patients, Dr. Goodwin spends his time with his family. His children and grandchildren are an important part of his life. He and his son often tend to do projects together on the weekends. Fridays are typically reserved for family dinner, followed by dominoes or movie night. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and being outdoors, but he is certainly happiest in his home, surrounded by the people he loves.

Raised in the small logging town of Vernonia, Oregon, Dr. Makayla Adams graduated Valedictorian from Vernonia High School before heading to Eastern Oregon University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. She went on to Midwestern University Arizona College of Optometry, where she earned her Doctorate of Optometry. Dr. Adams became interested in Optometry in high school when she got her first pair of glasses.

After doing some research and hearing stories from friends about their own experiences with glasses and eye exams, her passion for eyes grew into a decision to pursue it as her career. Growing up in a rural community of 2,400 people with a mom who works in the local elementary school, and a dad as a truck driver, Dr. Adams knew that she wanted to find a rural community to serve and call home. After meeting Dr. Goodwin at an optometry conference a couple years ago, it was discovered that their goals were beautifully aligned. After many visits and much conversion, Dr. Adams decided to put down roots here in Myrtle Creek. She will mentee under Dr. Goodwin, and eventually succeed him as owner of Advanced Eyecare.

Kellyn wears a few different hats here at the office. Some days, she is an optometric technician, tending to all preliminary patient care and interaction before Dr. Goodwin or Dr. Adams comes in, as well as contact lens training, inventory, and stock. Another day, she acts behind-the-scenes to help in the optical department. And last but not least, her back office position coordinates and implements practice development projects, maintains website management, and technology-based communication with patients.

When Kellyn is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family. She is married to Dr. Goodwin’s son Garrett, and they have 2 boys, Kaid and Jase. Kellyn also loves reading, running, yoga, playing dominoes, and learning new things.

Toni is Advanced Eyecare’s front desk manager. She is one of the lovely faces to greet patients when they walk in the door. With 16 years at Advanced Eyecare, she is our front desk ninja, able to handle the many challenges of the front-of-house manager position of a medical clinic. From patients to phones to scheduling and insurance verification, not many things get past this awesome gal! 

In her off time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, riding their motorcycles together, doing yard work, and doing community service related to her Christian ministry.
